According to reports from European Pravda, citing MEPs present at the meeting, the European Parliament declined to make a decision on funding the EU Council due to the inability of EU countries to supply Ukraine with additional Patriot systems.

Veteran MEP and former Prime Minister of Belgium Guy Verhofstadt, from the Renew faction, proposed removing the approval of the European Council budget from the agenda until member states can find seven Patriot systems, which are currently crucially needed by Ukraine.

Verhofstadt recalled the words of the head of European diplomacy that European countries have a hundred Patriot systems while Ukraine needs only seven.

His proposal was met with vigorous applause.

The decision is being called an unprecedented event. It was supported by 515 MEPs, with 62 against.

"Parliament refuses to approve the Council's budget until the European Council makes a decision to support Ukraine with additional Patriot missile defense systems!" - Verhofstadt wrote on Twitter.

"Just now: The European Parliament has suspended the decision on financing the EU Council due to the disruption of deliveries of Patriot systems to Ukraine", - wrote MEP and former Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius.

Earlier it was reported that after the massive russian air attack on the night of April 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on partner countries to accelerate efforts to strengthen Ukrainian air defense.
