“On May 18, joint exercises with russia began in Belarus to prepare missile forces and aviation for the ‘use of modern means of destruction, including special munitions’”, - the Telegram channel “DW Belarus” reports, citing the Belarusian Ministry of Defense.
“The military is practicing covert movement, delivery, and preparation of nuclear munitions for use. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus claims that the exercises are planned, and that ‘the training is not directed against third countries and does not pose a threat to security in the region’”, - the report says.
The report recalls that in 2023 the defense ministers of Belarus and russia signed documents on the deployment of russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. In 2024, putin and Lukashenko stated that they were already located on the territory of the country, without disclosing details about their location. Experts doubt that nuclear weapons were actually delivered to Belarus.
It was also stated that the russian “Iskander” missile system, 10 aircraft capable of carrying tactical nuclear weapons, and russian medium-range “Oreshnik” missile systems capable of carrying a nuclear warhead had been transferred to Belarus.
