Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to discuss escalation in the Donbas with Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron without Volodymyr Zelensky. This was reported to the Russian media by press secretary of the head of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov.
According to him, a video conference of the leaders of Russia, Germany and France is being coordinated, during which the question of escalation of the situation in the Donbas will be raised.
"We continue coordination with Berlin and Paris. When there are specific results of the coordination, we will inform you", - Peskov told the reporters.
When asked why the videoconference was not supposed to involve President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the Kremlin spokesman said that there was no talk of an event in the format of the Normandy Four. "There are a lot of other issues for discussion", - he noted.
"Of course, now discussion in such a format of discussion without touching upon the situation in Donbas is impossible. Of course, this topic will somehow be mentioned on the agenda. But this is not the only topic", - Peskov specified. He added that there is no exact date for the time of the videoconference yet.
As previously reported, Peskov stated on Monday that Putin did not intend to hold a conversation with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who stated after the death of four Ukrainian servicemen near Shumy that he intended to discuss the escalation of situation in the Donbas with the leaders of the Normandy Four countries, including President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
"The representatives of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group have been instructed to initiate an urgent meeting of the security subgroup, as well as to urgently discuss this issue at the level of advisers to the leaders of the Normandy format. I will have a conversation with all the leaders of the Normandy Four in the near future", - Zelensky noted.
