In the evening of November 1, Solomjansky District Court of Kyiv elected a preventive measure for the son of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Oleksandr Avakov, in the form of a personal recognizance. This is reported by 112.ua.

The preventive measure for Avakov Jr is to stay under personal recognizance. He is also to wear an ankle monitor, hand in his passport, and see the investigators at first demand.

It is worth noting that the prosecution demanded a 2-month detention with a possibility of $186 thousand bail.

On October 31, the NABU held the searches of the probably involved persons in the case of the supposed embezzlement of the state funds during the purchase of the backpacks for the National Guard by the Internal Ministry in 2014-2015.

Subsequently, detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine detained Oleksandr Avakov, former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Serhiy Chebotar and representative of the winner of the tender for the supply of backpacks Volodymyr Litvin on suspicion of embezzlement of more than $530 thousand. The law enforcers informed them of suspicion.

The Prosecutor’s General Office opened the criminal proceeding due to the purchase in July 2015. According to journalist Roman Bochkala, the ministry purchased the backpacks for the price of $111 per item and the total sum amounted to $539.800.

Later the video was published on YouTube that supposedly contains the talks of former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Serhiy Chebotar and son of Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov - Oleksandr Avakov. They discuss the supply of the backpacks for the Internal Ministry.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs claimed that the information on the illegal deals on the backpacks’ purchase does not reflect the actual situation and aims to discredit the ministry”, - the report says.
