Moscow “sees no grounds” for agreeing to a ceasefire with Ukraine in the Black Sea, russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said. She was responding to a question about whether the russian side had received Turkey’s proposal for a moratorium on military actions at sea and whether it was ready to consider such an option, “The Moscow Times” Telegram channel reported on August 14.
According to Zakharova, russia regularly faces “unrestrained acts of terrorism carried out by Ukrainian Armed Forces drones” against civilian vessels. “At the same time, we do not see any prerequisites for improving the situation and, consequently, no grounds for half-measures that would only give the Kyiv regime a temporary respite”, - she said.
The report recalls that a few days ago, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on the russian and Ukrainian sides to create a mechanism for a ceasefire in the Black Sea. Ankara also prepared a plan envisaging the creation of two separate security corridors for commercial vessels traveling to russia and Ukraine. The sides could, in turn, commit to refraining from strikes along these routes.
