Filming has begun in the Croatian capital, Zagreb, for a new project by Hollywood director Doug Liman about events in Ukraine. American actors Sean Penn and Adrien Brody will star in the film, titled “Snake Island”. Barricades were erected and military equipment brought in for filming in central Zagreb. Danas reports this.
Men in Ukrainian military uniforms were also spotted on the set, which was arranged in front of the Esplanade Hotel and along Mihanovićeva Street. On the same day, Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody was spotted near the hotel, followed later by Sean Penn. The Hollywood stars are involved in the film.
The film “Snake Island” tells the story of events surrounding the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea. The film focuses on a secret group of Ukrainian divers whom investigators suspect of blowing up the pipeline.
Filming began in July, while the release date for the film has not yet been announced.
It should be noted that both American actors are known for their support of Ukraine. Adrien Brody recorded a video in support of Ukrainians in March 2023. He said that his thoughts and prayers were with Ukrainians who had been suffering for so long.
Sean Penn has actively supported Ukraine since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion. He has visited Kyiv and other regions on numerous occasions, made a documentary about the war, and met with Ukrainian military personnel and President Zelensky. In March 2026, he skipped the Oscars ceremony, where he received the golden statuette, because he was in Ukraine at the time.
