“Today we received terrible news for the railway family. A jet-powered Shahed UAV struck a passenger train in the Odesa oblast. According to preliminary information, the strike claimed the lives of two of our colleagues — the driver and his assistant. All circumstances are currently being clarified”, - Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) said on Telegram on August 13.
“Despite the threat, the locomotive crew continued operating the train so that 340 passengers could safely leave the carriages. All passengers and the train crew were evacuated, and there were no casualties among them. Our colleagues continued performing their duties to the very end and did everything to protect the people in their care”, - the statement said.
“We bow our heads before the selflessness of our colleagues and will keep their memory alive. We stand with their loved ones and will do everything possible to support them during this extremely difficult time”, - Ukrainian Railways emphasized.
