“As part of the latest repatriation efforts, 261 bodies (remains) of fallen Ukrainian defenders have been returned to Ukraine”, - the Security Service of Ukraine reported on August 13.
The return of the fallen was the result of joint and coordinated work by the Joint Center for the Coordination of the Search for and Release of Prisoners of War under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Central Directorate for Civil-Military Cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and other components of Ukraine’s security and defense sector.
“Behind each such return is complex interagency work aimed at ensuring that fallen Ukrainian defenders are returned home and that their families have the opportunity to properly say goodbye to their loved ones”, - the statement said.
In the near future, law enforcement investigators, together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct the necessary examinations and ensure the identification of the repatriated bodies.
