"I am shocked by yet another cynical crime committed by russia. This time, a UNICEF warehouse storing humanitarian aid for Ukrainian children and families affected by the war came under enemy attack. More than 106,000 units of humanitarian supplies worth nearly $3.9 million were destroyed, including generators, drinking water, hygiene kits, and other critically important supplies", - Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets wrote on Telegram on the evening of July 21.
He emphasized that UNICEF has been a long-standing partner of the Ombudsman's Office, providing daily assistance to Ukrainian children and families. "An attack on a humanitarian warehouse is an attack on those who save lives", - Lubinets stressed.
"Russia also continues to kill children and destroy humanitarian infrastructure. According to UNICEF, two children were killed last week alone, while at least 50 others were injured. June saw the highest monthly number of child fatalities since 2022: seven children were killed and another 116 were injured", - the Ukrainian Ombudsman stated.
"I once again emphasize that attacks on humanitarian facilities and humanitarian workers constitute a gross violation of international humanitarian law. When those delivering aid to children and civilians come under attack, russia is targeting not only infrastructure but also the very ability to save lives. The aggressor state must be held accountable for every such crime", - Lubinets said.
