"Various statements and actions have led to a situation where the russians may be taking satisfaction in having turned Poles and Ukrainians against one another", - said Radosław Sikorski, Poland's foreign minister.

"Of course, we cannot change history. We cannot bring back a single victim. What we can do—each on our own side—is better understand our own history and reconcile so that we can have a shared future instead of destroying one another", - RMF24 quoted him as saying.

The foreign minister of Ukraine's neighboring country expressed regret that no joint event would be held on July 11 to commemorate Polish citizens who were killed in 1943, as had taken place 23 years earlier.

On July 11, 2003, Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski and Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma took part in events in Pavlivka, the Volynska oblast, marking the 60th anniversary of the Volyn tragedy.
