The former head of the "Isolation" torture chamber, Denys Kulikovskyi, also known as "Palych", has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Kyiv. This was reported on January 3 by Suspilne.

"The court found Kulikovsky guilty under Article 258(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, Article 28(1), and Article 438(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court decided to impose a 15-year prison sentence on Kulikovskyi with the confiscation of all his property. The execution of the sentence is considered to have started on November 9, 2021", - the statement said.

At the same time, the court acquitted him of charges under Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (human trafficking - OstroV) due to lack of evidence.

Human rights defender Oleksandra Matviichuk stated after the verdict that "Palych" should have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

"I will consult with the lawyers of the victims and, in general, regarding procedural nuances. In my opinion, Denys Kulikovskyi, also known as 'Palych', should receive a life sentence. I have collected testimonies from people who survived... These are stories that indicate to me that, considering the totality of the crimes committed, they should be imprisoned for the rest of their lives. We need to find a procedural solution. I really don't understand why the prosecution asked for only 15 years. The judge has now fully granted this request, but Article 438(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war if actions are associated with intentional killing) still provides the possibility of inviting him for life", - she said.

Earlier, it was reported that in the de-occupied territories of Ukraine, the police discovered 80 russian torture chambers and prisons.
