The Security Service of Ukraine and National Police neutralized a criminal group in the Odesa oblast that transported draft dodgers to the border using ambulance cars. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine Telegram channel on November 2.
"This 'transfer' delivered clients to the border with a neighboring European country, bypassing checkpoints. Then another participant of the scheme met the draft dodgers, guiding them into the neighboring country through forest paths", - the message noted.
According to the given information, law enforcement officers stopped an ambulance carriage on the international highway Odesa-Reni, which, with sirens on, was transporting two draft dodgers towards the border.
As per the investigation, the organizers turned out to be two foreign nationals with temporary residence permits in Ukraine and a resident of the Odesa oblast.
The ambulance "service" cost amounted to $4,800 per client.
The perpetrators face up to 9 years in prison with property confiscation.
It was previously reported that border guards discovered more "travelers" attempting to illegally cross the border in the sleeper compartment of a truck.
