“IAEA has confirmed the danger of the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP occupied by the russians”, - the Ministry’s statement says.

According to the IAEA, the Zaporizhzhia NPP has been without its main power supply for ten days already and is functioning only thanks to backup diesel generators. Fuel reserves for their operation will last about 10 days.

The Director General of the agency, Rafael Grossi, emphasized that the situation is extremely unstable and poses serious risks to nuclear and radiation safety. In the event of a shutdown of the backup systems, there is a threat of nuclear fuel meltdown.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, in cooperation with international partners, calls on the global community to increase pressure on russia to prevent a nuclear catastrophe and return the Zaporizhzhia NPP under Ukraine’s control as soon as possible.

On September 23, as a result of the disconnection of the high-voltage line supplying the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP, the plant lost power for its own needs from the Ukrainian energy system.

On September 30, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP is critical.
