“The final document of the summit of heads of state and government on Ukraine included only the text that had been adopted by consensus years ago. Over several weeks of work on the wording proposed by Hungary, the statement was substantially revised. In addition, at my initiative, a provision hinting at the acceleration of the process was removed from the text at the last moment”, - Prime Minister of the country Péter Magyar said in a post on X.

Euronews also reports that upon arriving at the summit, Magyar made it clear that Budapest maintains reservations regarding the pace of the accession talks, which are currently continuing officially.

“We have reservations about opening all other negotiation chapters after the first cluster was opened. And we are not alone in this — there are other member states saying the same thing. We support an accession process based on merit and results”.

Despite this, one diplomat told Euronews that Magyar and Zelensky had a brief one-on-one conversation. Afterward, Zelensky expressed optimism that Hungary would support the opening of the remaining clusters for EU accession negotiations “faster than you think”.
