The head of the russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov confirmed at the UN Security Council meeting that the so-called "special military operation" ("SMO"), according to the UN resolution, constitutes open aggression against Ukraine. This is stated in his statement and the resolution of the General Assembly dated December 14, 1974.
Article 1 of the resolution states, "aggression is the use of armed force by a state against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, or political independence of another state".
The head of the russian foreign affairs department, speaking at the UN Security Council meeting, affirmed that the goal of the "SMO" is the overthrow of the democratically elected government. "Russia has never rejected peaceful negotiations with Ukraine, but not to preserve the leaders of the Kyiv regime in power and indulge their fantasies", - Lavrov said.
The representative of Ukraine, Serhiy Kyslytsia, reminded the members of the UN Security Council about the aggressor country's desire to deprive Ukraine of sovereignty and political independence. He read a statement from the former president of russia, dmitry medvedev, who openly urged Ukrainians to renounce their statehood. "The existence of an independent state on historically russian territories will now be a constant pretext for the resumption of hostilities", - wrote the deputy secretary of the russian Security Council.
