On Friday, January 12, the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom signed a bilateral security agreement. This was reported by European Pravda.

The document, titled "Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Security between Ukraine and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", was signed by the leaders of the two countries after negotiations at the Mariinsky Palace in Kyiv.

This agreement became the first among security agreements to implement the agreements reached during the NATO Summit in Vilnius between Ukraine, members of the "Group of Seven" and the states that joined them.

The commitments of the United Kingdom under this document will remain in effect until Ukraine joins NATO, said President Volodymyr Zelensky after the signing.

"If such guarantees had been reached in 1991, particularly with Britain, the war would not have started", - he is convinced.

Rishi Sunak, on his part, emphasized that this is the "first of the security assurances that Ukraine is signing". The British Prime Minister also highlighted that the United Kingdom was the first to provide Ukraine with lethal weapons, tanks, long-range missiles, and the like.

The leaders also announced that the agreement has a term of ten years with the possibility of extension. However, in the event of Ukraine joining NATO before the expiration of the term, the obligations under the security agreement will conclude and be incorporated into the NATO system.

Earlier, it was reported that British Prime Minister Sunak would visit Kyiv today and announce a new package of military aid to Ukraine. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom stated that his country would transfer the largest shipment of drones in history to Ukraine.
