Members of the Verkhovna Rada supported the bill No. 9269d in the second reading, which strengthens the financial monitoring of politically exposed persons (PEP). This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on October 17th.

A total of 276 deputies voted "for".

"The Parliament supported No. 9269d on strengthening financial monitoring of politically exposed persons", - wrote Zheleznyak.

"The main innovation is that instead of three years after leaving the position, top officials (PEPs) will essentially have a lifelong PEP status. However, at the same time, the bill increases the responsibility of financial institutions (e.g., banks) for unjustified refusal to provide financial services to users", - explained the MP.

Zheleznyak also reminded that the version approved for the second reading now complies with AML/CFT standards and will be counted as fulfilling the IMF's requirements. "Specifically, it is the 14th structural benchmark that was supposed to be completed by the end of September this year. This is also the last step to start negotiations on Ukraine's EU membership", - noted Zheleznyak.

"P.S. There was even a symbolic vote. The phrase 'The green button is our path to the European Union' will be remembered for a long time", - concluded the MP.

As reported, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, believes that during negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union, the "most challenging" discussions will revolve around the issue of agriculture.
