Heavy fighting continues in the Donbas, in particular, in the area of Soledar and Bakhmut. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in a video message on October 16.
"The situation on the front line has not changed significantly over the past day. The key hotspots in the Donbas are Soledar and Bakhmut, heavy fighting continues there. The occupiers have thrown everyone they could against our forces, including 2 thousand "convicts" - they are among mercenaries right there. These are "convicts" with long sentences for serious crimes, they are kept at the front not only by money, but also by the promise of an amnesty.
This is how the russian state sponsors terror – looking for killers in prisons and promising them freedom, if they kill again. Does anyone in the world still doubt whether it is worth officially recognizing russia as a terrorist state? Not likely", - the president noted.
Zelensky thanked all our soldiers who heroically hold positions both near Bakhmut and Soledar, and in all other directions where military clashes are currently ongoing - in the east and in the south of the state.
