Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal believes that obtaining the status of a candidate member of the European Union will provide Ukraine with six advantages. He wrote this on Facebook on June 19.

"First of all, it is a legal consolidation of the European future of Ukraine. This means that Ukraine is not just potentially one day able to join the EU, but that the process has been launched, and it already meets a significant number of criteria that are being put forward for candidates", - Shmyhal noted.

According to him, the preparation for membership will include the completion of the transformation of all areas, and in this process, the European Commission will provide all the necessary assistance.

"Ukraine will become a full member of EU programs and initiatives. As a candidate country, Ukraine will have more opportunities for its voice to be heard in the formation of EU policies", - the prime minister wrote.

Shmyhal added that candidate status and movement towards membership would make Ukraine more attractive to investors.

He also stressed that Ukraine will have access to financial assistance for countries preparing to join the EU. It can be provided through grants, investments, or as technical assistance.

In his opinion, the movement to the EU will allow to modernize Ukraine.

On June 17, the European Commission recommended granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
