The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called the russian ambassador for an explanation after the words of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov about anti-Semitic Jews. This is reported by Kan 11 TV channel.

As previously reported, in an interview with the Mediaset Italian TV channel, answering the question of how Ukraine's accusations of Nazism correlate with the fact that President Volodymyr Zelensky is a Jew, russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that the biggest anti-Semites are often the Jews themselves. Allegedly, "the wise Jewish people" speak about this. In addition, Lavrov stated that, perhaps, Hitler also had Jewish blood.

"Foreign Minister Lavrov's statements are both inexcusable and scandalous, and are a terrible historical mistake. Jews did not kill themselves during the Holocaust", - Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid tweeted.

Deputy Economy Minister Yair Golan stated in turn that the russian government bases the legitimacy of aggression against Ukraine on outright lies. "This is a shocking, anti-Semitic and largely false statement. It reflects what the russian government really is - a brutal government that does not hesitate to eliminate its rivals from within and invades a foreign country, accusing it of reviving Nazism".

Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan also reacted to the statements of the head of the foreign policy department of the aggressor state. "This is a reversal of the Holocaust. Victims are taken and turned into attackers… The claim that Zelensky is a Nazi is a serious insult to the victims of true Nazism and the spread of an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory not based on facts".
