Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Khan has announced the launch of an investigation into possible war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the International Tribunal.

The prosecutor informed that he already sees signs of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

According to Khan, on March 2, he received an appeal about the situation in Ukraine from 39 ICC member states, and work to collect evidence of Russian war crimes began.

As noted, the prosecutor's office will begin collecting evidence of "any past and present allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity or genocide committed in any part of the territory of Ukraine by any person" The investigation will cover incidents in the country from 2013 to the present.

Earlier, the International Court of Justice stated that on March 7 and 8, it would hold a hearing on the lawsuit of Ukraine against Russia regarding the violation by the Russian Federation of the Convention on the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide.
