Russian militants, many of whom were from the Caucasus, seized the Donetsk Airport seven years ago, on May 26, 2014. As a result of a covert operation of the Ukrainian security forces, supported by operational aircraft, the terrorists were driven out. These events can be considered the beginning of active hostilities in Donetsk.
