The Ukrainian delegation decided to stop its work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in protest against the decision destroying the sanctions mechanism. This decision has already been made and will be announced in the near future, - European Pravda reports.
After appealing against the authority of the Russian delegation and stopping the automatic appointment of chairman of the State Duma's international affairs committee Leonid Slutsky PACE Vice President, the Ukrainian delegation jointly left the session hall and will not participate in further debates by the end of the day.
The Ukrainian delegation will temporarily return to the hall on Wednesday to participate in the appeal of the powers of the Russian delegation. Ukraine will demand that the Russians be completely deprived of their powers, as well as the right to occupy leading positions in the committees.
It has also been decided that after appealing against the powers of the Russian delegation, the Ukrainians will not return to the PACE session hall regardless of the decision.
The demarche of the Ukrainian delegation was adopted in protest against the controversial decision of the PACE, adopted last night, which significantly narrowed the possibility of imposing sanctions against the delegation of the Russian Federation, as well as other states that violate the principles of the Council of Europe.
It is expected that the Ukrainian parliament may also take a joint decision on further work in the PACE. Voting of Ukrainian deputies in the election of the CE Secretary General is also in question.
The existing sanctions mechanism was canceled by the PACE decision last night, however, the deputies still had the opportunity to completely deny the delegation's authority or impose minor sanctions. Ukraine and Georgia appealed against the authority of the Russian delegation in the PACE.
