Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for European Integration Olena Zerkal considers it necessary to dissolve the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between the Russian Federation and Ukraine due to Russia's gross violation of its main provisions. She stated this on the air of Radio NV.

Zerkal noted that the last "brutal" violation was the holding of Russia's presidential election in the occupied Crimea. She also believes that in the new realities of relations with Russia, Ukraine should come to conclusion of such a treaty of new format for resolving disputes between countries.

The Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Russia and Ukraine was signed in 1997. This is a fundamental document of the Ukrainian-Russian relations, which provides for a strategic partnership "based on the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, peaceful settlement of disputes and non-use of force or threat of force, including economic and other means of pressure".
