The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Yakiv Smoliy as governor of the National Bank of Ukraine. A total of 247 MPs voted for the adoption of a respective draft resolution, No. 7501, on Thursday, Ukrainska Pravda reports.

Yakiv Smoliy until now has held the post of first deputy head of the NBU, since May 11, 2017 he had been its acting head.

The relevant committee supported his candidacy, since it has already worked with Smoliy in the absence of Hontareva.

Smoliy said that he has an action plan - and urged MPs to pass laws on lending and on the currency that will help stabilize Ukraine.
