The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office have detained Oleksandr Avakov, the son of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, and former Deputy Interior Minister Serhiy Chebotar on suspicion of embezzlement when purchasing backpacks for the National Guard by the MIA. This is reported by Ukrayinski Novyny with reference to an informed source.

According to him, the son of Avakov and Chebotar will be informed of suspicion under Art. 191 (embezzlement) of the Criminal Code.

In turn, the press service of NABU reports that the former deputy minister of internal affairs, the representative of the tender's winner for the supply of backpacks and another private person were detained on suspicion of embezzlement of more than $522 thousand.

The offenses are qualified under Part 5 of Art. 191 (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or distress by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code.

At the present time, the issue of notice of suspicion to the detainees is being decided.

According to the source, the third detainee is Volodymyr Lytvyn, a friend of Oleksandr Avakov. Now he is being transported from Kharkiv to Kyiv.
