“Now is the time to stop the killings and immediately declare a ceasefire. Considering president putin’s refusal to end this senseless war, the Department of the Treasury is imposing sanctions against the two largest russian oil companies financing the kremlin’s war machine”, - stated US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The list also includes 28 russian subsidiaries of Rosneft and six of Lukoil. All their assets in the US have been frozen. In addition, any legal entities that are “50% or more owned by one or more blocked persons” have also been frozen. Violations are subject to “civil or criminal penalties for US citizens and foreign nationals”.
The US Treasury also stated that it is ready to take new measures to “support Trump’s efforts” to end the war.
It is also reported that Brent crude oil futures rose by 3% in trading after the US government’s decision.
