“A mediator cannot be someone who supplies weapons to one of the sides. And China itself won’t go for it, because they know they won’t be able to do anything—this requires a different approach. China could theoretically pressure putin, but neither the U.S. nor Ukraine can force Beijing to do it”, - political expert Andrii Horodnytskyi said in a comment to OstroV.
As for Xi Jinping’s visit to moscow, the political expert doesn’t believe any serious statements should be expected.
“It’s unlikely Xi will take a clear position. China doesn’t currently have the resources to stretch its military and open another front. We’ll hear the usual rhetoric: we’re friends and allies, we have common enemies”, - the expert emphasized.
As a reminder, Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived in the kremlin on May 8 and met with the russian dictator putin.
