Finnish authorities have acknowledged that russia's unilateral decision to "clarify" its state border line in the Baltic Sea to expand its territorial waters was unexpected for them. This was particularly noted by Kimmo Kiljunen, head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, as reported by Finnish media.
"It is surprising that this is happening on a notification basis. Usually, such matters are discussed and agreed upon. Now we find ourselves in a rather unexpected position", - he admitted.
Finland's Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, commenting on the report of russia's intention to change its maritime borders in the Baltic Sea, stated that moscow must comply with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
