The US State Department termed the suspension of consular services abroad for Ukrainian men of conscription age as a "complex issue". This was stated by Daniel Sizek, the official spokesperson for the US diplomatic mission in Brussels, to Radio Liberty.

"It's a complex issue, especially what to do with men who are currently outside Ukraine. But the Ukrainian government has the right to determine its policy. There's no decision or position from the US government yet - whether to assist Ukraine in this area or not", - said the State Department representative when asked if the United States would assist Ukraine in bringing men back home.

Sizek also added that the fate of Ukrainian citizens is primarily Ukraine's concern, noting that the Ukrainian government should "act carefully on this issue".

"It's understandable that the Armed Forces of Ukraine need people to defend the country... It's a complex issue and hard to say. It's important that Europe, and to some extent the US as well, have welcomed Ukrainians who have decided that they and their families needed to leave Ukraine, and that was another important part of European support, for example. At the same time, it's right that the Ukrainian government needs to intensively and seriously study the situation. And the situation regarding people for the Armed Forces - it's natural, and the US government respects the right of the Ukrainian government to determine its policy", - summarized the State Department representative.

Earlier it was reported that Poland is ready to help Ukraine "identify" men of conscription age.

The Minister of Defense of Lithuania, citing Poland as an example, promises to consider how to help Ukraine bring back men of conscription age.
