The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has extended martial law in the country until August 23. This was announced on May 22 in Telegram by People's Deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak.

He noted that Secretary of the NSDC Oleksiy Danilov submitted the decrees of the President of Ukraine "On the extension of the period of martial law in Ukraine" and "On the extension of the period of general mobilization".

320 deputies supported the approval of the first decree.

The extension of the period for general mobilization for three months was supported by 315 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.

Let us recall that on May 18, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky proposed extending martial law and new time frames for general mobilization almost until the end of summer.

As OstroV reported, representative of the President of Ukraine in the Constitutional Court Fedir Venislavsky stated that the initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to extend the martial law for 90 days was connected with the transition of the AFU to a counteroffensive in the combat areas. According to Venislavsky, if Ukraine is liberated within three months, martial law in the country will be lifted.
