Ukrainian soldier has disappeared during the battle with the militants in Joint Forces Operation zone in the Donbass, - the command of the Marine Corps of the Ukrainian Navy reports.
It is being clarified that a few days ago, the enemy tried to quietly overcome the security area opposite the JF positions near the village of Mykolayivka under the cover of fog in order to obtain a more advantageous position.
"Our sworn brothers, who were on a combat duty at the observation post at that time, noticed the enemy's movement in time and opened fire on the enemy, forcing him to retreat. At that time, a reserve group approached to help the Marines. To cover the retreating saboteurs, the enemy began to shell our group using large-caliber machine guns and small arms. One of our soldiers disappeared during the battle", - the statement said.
A search and evacuation team immediately began its operation in the area. The command of the marine brigade appealed to international observers to establish ceasefire on this sector. However, the illegal armed formations made no concessions and continued shelling, thereby preventing a thorough search for the missing fighter.
It became known on Sunday that the body of a Ukrainian soldier could be in the morgue of one of the cities in the occupied territory. "At present, we are taking all measures to identify the deceased person and, in case of confirmation of the information, the return of our sworn brother's body", - the report said.
