The police have opened an investigation upon the damage to the Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the City Park of Eternal Glory. This is reported by the Police Communications Department of Kyiv.
"The Investigation Department of the Pechersk Police Headquarters opened an investigation under Part 3 of Article 297 (Desecration of grave, other burial place or body of the deceased) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine", - the statement said.
Sanction of the article provides for up to seven years of imprisonment.
It is also reported that law enforcement officers seized three pairs of construction gloves and buckets from the scene. The police check the availability of security tapes.
