“Price caps on russian oil could change dramatically if the EU introduces a full ban on maritime transport, as proposed by Finland and Sweden. The European Commission is seeking the views of its G7 partners on the future of the russian oil price cap before proposing a new round of sanctions against moscow”, - Euronews wrote on February 6, citing several officials and diplomats.

It is noted that the presentation for ambassadors was supposed to take place on Friday, February 6, but it was preliminarily postponed to early next week.

“Among the ideas being put forward as part of the new package of measures is a full ban on maritime transport. The plan, publicly supported by Finland and Sweden, would prohibit EU companies from providing any services such as insurance, shipping, or port access to vessels carrying russian crude oil or petroleum products”, - the report says.

It is clarified, that until now the EU has allowed the provision of such services, but only to tankers that comply with the G7 price cap in force since December 2022.
