“On February 4 and 5, delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and the russian federation held a second trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi aimed at advancing efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The discussions were constructive and focused on how to create the conditions for a lasting peace”, - Special Envoy Steve Witkoff wrote on February 5 in a report on the peace talks organized by the United Arab Emirates.
In particular, he writes about the first prisoner exchange in 2026.
According to him, the United States and russia also agreed to establish a military dialogue under the leadership of General Alexus Grynkewich, commander of U.S. European Command. “This communication channel was suspended before the start of the conflict and is crucial for achieving and sustaining peace”, - Witkoff noted.
He also noted that “over the course of two days, the delegations held extensive discussions on remaining open issues, including methods of implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities”.
“The delegations agreed to report the results of the talks to their capitals and to continue trilateral discussions in the coming weeks. They expressed appreciation to the United Arab Emirates for hosting the talks, and Ukraine and the russian federation thanked President Donald Trump for his leadership in advancing the process to end the war”, - the U.S. president’s special envoy concluded.
