According to Zelensky, the plan should be brief, without unnecessary details. “A few short points. For example, a ceasefire plan. We decided that we will work on it during the next week or ten days”, - the President said in an interview with Axios, reports Suspilne.
At the same time Zelensky said he is skeptical about putin’s willingness to accept any peace plan.
He also noted that the new sanctions by US President Donald Trump will hurt the russian war machine, but Ukraine still needs long-range missiles to force putin to make peace.
“President Trump is concerned about escalation. But I think that even if there are no talks, escalation will continue. I think that if putin does not stop, we need something that will stop him. Sanctions are one kind of weapon, but we also need long-range missiles... My talks with President Trump were about putting pressure on russia. I think he wanted to put pressure on them, but did not want to escalate or close the window... for diplomacy”, - Zelensky said.
The President emphasized that he believes giving Ukraine the ability to strike military and energy targets deep inside russia is a way to make putin negotiate seriously.
Zelensky noted that he told Trump that Ukraine wouldn’t even need to use the missiles immediately, because if putin knows that silence risks “problems with russia’s energy facilities”, then he will talk.
“We are not talking only about ‘Tomahawks’. The US has many similar systems that do not require a lot of training. I think the way to work with putin is only through pressure”, - Zelensky said.
