This was stated by U.S. President Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists, reports Suspilne.

According to Trump, Vitkoff’s visit may take place on Wednesday (August 6) or Thursday (August 7). He also warned that the U.S. will impose sanctions if moscow does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine by the end of the 10-day deadline.

"There will be sanctions. But it seems they (the russians — ed.) are pretty good at getting around them. You know, they’re crafty guys, and they dodge sanctions well. So we’ll see what happens. But right now Steve (Vitkoff) is focused on the border situation, particularly helping Gaza — delivering food. And probably next week — Wednesday or Thursday — he’ll go to russia. They want to see him. Invited him for a meeting. So we’ll see what happens", - said Trump.

When asked by a journalist whether russia can avoid sanctions, Trump replied that a deal needs to be made.

"Yes, make a deal so people stop dying. They recently published numbers: a huge number of russian soldiers have died. Same in Ukraine — fewer, but still thousands and thousands of people. And now cities are being hit with missiles. And people are dying en masse in this senseless war. And you know, we’ve stopped a lot of wars — India and Pakistan, many countries. And we’ll stop this war too. Somehow, we’ll stop it. It really is a horrible war", - Trump added.
