On July 28, Lithuanian police reported an unidentified drone that crossed into Lithuanian airspace from Belarus on Monday morning. This was reported by the LRT portal.
“This morning we received reports from residents that an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) most likely entered Lithuanian territory from Belarus. According to the received information, the drone was spotted at an altitude of about 200 meters, last seen near Vilnius. Police have mobilized all forces, all services have been informed... The type of drone has not yet been identified, the information will be updated”, - said Darius Buta, a representative of the National Crisis Management Center.
Minister of National Defense Dovilė Šakalienė said that they are still trying to determine what the object is.
“The information is being clarified. Today the weather is favorable for weather balloons, which smugglers use to transport their goods. At the moment, we cannot confirm what this object or objects are”, - said the minister.
On social media, users wrote that the drone was spotted at around 5 a.m.
As reported to the LRT portal by presidential adviser Tomas Beržinskas, the head of state Gitanas Nausėda was informed about the incident. The president did not go into shelter.
The report recalls that on July 10, an unmanned aerial vehicle had already violated Lithuanian airspace. Initially, it was believed to be a Shahed-type drone used by russia in its war against Ukraine. However, it was later revealed that the border had been crossed by a russian Gerbera drone, which visually resembles the Shahed and is intended to deceive air defense systems.
