Ukraine is suspending its obligations under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, which sets limits on the number of tanks, armored combat vehicles, artillery, combat aircraft, and attack helicopters. This was reported by the Telegram channel "ZN.UA" with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The diplomatic agency emphasized that this is "the next step in strengthening our position after suspending the Ottawa Convention" on the prohibition of anti-personnel mines.
The Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) was signed on November 19, 1990, in Paris between NATO member states and Warsaw Pact member states.
Establishing limits on the number of weapons was seen as a guarantee of reducing military tension and increasing security in Europe.
Russia ceased participating in the CFE in 2007, and officially withdrew from the Treaty on November 7, 2023. On the same day, NATO member states also ended their participation in the Treaty.
