This was stated by the head of the Central Election Commission, Oleh Didenko, in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.
"There are currently millions of Ukrainian citizens abroad, but according to consular records, there are fewer than 400,000. This clearly does not reflect reality. In order for citizens abroad to vote, they need to register in some way—either by providing their electoral address or choosing a polling place. We are now preparing a proposal to introduce another mechanism. If the Verkhovna Rada supports our idea, a third option will be available for voting—the so-called active registration", - Didenko explained.
According to him, organizing voting abroad is a difficult task even in peacetime due to the limited number of polling stations and their distance from voters.
"And now, the number of voters abroad has increased tenfold or more. Estimates suggest there are about 5-6 million voters abroad. Of course, we do not know what migration will look like in the post-war period. This number may decrease as some citizens return. Nevertheless, we are talking about millions of people. Clearly, the 102 polling stations currently available in embassies and consulates cannot solve this problem", - the head of the CEC noted.
Previously, Presidential Office advisor Mykhailo Podoliak stated that a potential ceasefire would not be grounds for holding presidential elections in Ukraine.
