The United States is urging the UN General Assembly to support its resolution on the third anniversary of russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Monday and vote against a competing text developed by Ukraine and European allies. According to Reuters, in a diplomatic note, the United States described its brief resolution as a “forward-looking resolution focused on one simple idea: ending the war”.
"With this resolution, member states can create real momentum toward international peace and security, which is the primary goal of the United Nations", - the document states, asking countries to "vote against any other resolution or amendments presented" during Monday’s session.
According to the publication, citing diplomats, the 15-member Security Council is also set to vote on the same U.S. text. To adopt a Security Council resolution, at least nine votes are required, with no vetoes from the U.S., russia, China, the UK, or France. Ukraine and its European allies have developed a resolution that reiterates the UN’s demand for russia to withdraw its troops and cease military actions.
