As reported, earlier Ukraine submitted to the United States a request for russia regarding an Easter ceasefire.

“In response to the disclosure of new details of conversations between the foreign ministers of Hungary and russia, which confirm that Hungarian vetoes against Ukraine in the EU were coordinated with russia, the European Union will demand that the Hungarian government urgently provide explanations”, - European Pravda quotes the statement of European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho.

It is noted that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will raise the issue of Hungary’s coordination of anti-Ukrainian actions with russia in the EU at the level of leaders of member states.

Later, European Pravda learned from its own sources that this time European institutions are indeed very irritated by the disclosed facts of direct cooperation with the aggressor state russia by one of the EU member states on issues that directly concern the internal policy of the European Union.

Earlier, the media project Vsquare published new details of conversations between Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, which confirm that Hungarian vetoes against Ukraine in the EU were coordinated with russia. In one of the conversations, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán promised putin full support.

It should be noted that Ukraine is ready for any format of ceasefire, in particular for Easter.

It is recalled that in 2025, putin announced a three-day Easter ceasefire, calling for a halt to all hostilities in Ukraine from the evening of April 19 until midnight on April 21. However, on April 19, 2025, russia attacked Ukraine with drones.

According to the expert, even without legal recognition, this will become a serious argument against Ukraine.

“Even if de jure we do not recognize it, de facto it will become a strong argument against us. In the future, this practically deprives us of the possibility of returning these territories by diplomatic means. We will be told: ‘You left yourselves, which means you recognized russian jurisdiction over them’”, - explained Serhii Harmash.

He cited a historical analogy with the Baltic states.

“There is a dangerous historical analogy: Western countries (and the United States and the United Kingdom in particular) de jure never recognized the annexation of the Baltic states by the USSR in 1939. But de facto, until 1991, they regarded them as part of the Soviet Union and even helped restore soviet sovereignty over them in the 1940s”, - the expert noted.

Serhii Harmash emphasized that such a scenario is unacceptable for Ukraine.

“This is the key strategic danger. This must not be allowed”, - he stressed.

At the same time, the expert warned that even in a critical situation, an official withdrawal of troops is undesirable.

“If the situation becomes critical — there are no resources, finances, support, manpower… — and the loss of territory becomes inevitable, then under no circumstances should troops be withdrawn officially. It is better at least to simulate the loss of these territories as a result of unsuccessful combat operations”, - he concluded.

At the same time, according to him, such a scenario does not suit moscow, since it does not give it legal control.

“This would not give moscow jurisdiction over this territory. After that, it was repeatedly stated that russia does not agree to such ‘territorial agreements’”, - the expert emphasized.

He noted that the real goal of the kremlin is full control over Donbas.

“The desires of putin, no matter how our negotiators tried to mask them, were obvious — de facto control over the Donetsk oblast”, - Serhii Harmash stated.

The expert added that for putin, stopping the war without capturing Donbas would mean defeat.

“He will not stop on his own until he captures Donbas, because for him stopping before that moment would mean defeat in the war”, - he noted.

At the same time, according to Harmash, the kremlin can be forced to compromise.

“But he can be stopped by creating conditions where the kremlin will see that the price is disproportionate to the gain, that it is more convenient to put on a good face in a bad game and go for a compromise that can be interpreted as a victory, than to risk an obvious defeat. And such a threat exists for him”, - the expert concluded.

“During April 7, russia carried out 1,293 strikes along the front line and on the residential sector of the oblast. Seven settlements were under fire: the cities of Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Sloviansk, the villages of Oleksandrivka, Oleksiive-Druzhkivka, Zavydo-Kudashove, Kyndrativka. Eight civilian objects were damaged, including five residential buildings”, - the Donetsk oblast police reported on April 8.

Russians killed two civilians using FPV drones: one person in Oleksiive-Druzhkivka and one in Kyndrativka.
