Deliveries of tanks to Ukraine and russia’s inability to restore its mechanized potential will significantly limit the occupiers’ ability to engage in moving warfare. This was reported on February 16 by the Institute for the Study of War.
"The timely provision of tanks and armored vehicles by the West to Ukraine will destroy the ability of the russian federation to conduct a mechanized war. However, moscow is trying to resume its defense production in the short term", - ISW experts noted.
At the same time, as analysts noted, the russians lost about 50% of the T-72B and T-72B3M tanks, as well as a large number of T-80s, during the year of a full-scale invasion. Employees of the Institute also cite an assessment by British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, according to which two-thirds of russian tanks have already been destroyed or are unusable.
The Institute for the Study of War stressed that Kyiv continues to have a window of opportunity to launch large-scale counteroffensives within a few months. However, the ability to do this depends to a large extent on the speed and scale with which the West will provide the necessary equipment, in particular, tanks and armored vehicles.
