U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has compared the situation in the cities of Ukraine after the Russian attack, in particular in Mariupol, with the blockade of Leningrad. Blinken wrote this on Twitter.

"Every Russian has learned about the Siege of Leningrad during World War II. Sadly, history has repeated itself – but now it’s the Russian government cruelly starving Ukrainian cities", - the U.S. Secretary of State writes.

In the message, Blinken added a photo of women and captions: "Siege of Leningrad 1942 - Mariupol, Ukraine 2022".
