Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that the peace would be ensured in Donbass if unpopular steps in the Ukrainian society were to be taken. He said this today during his speech at the Japanese National Press Club, - reports UNIAN.
According to Poroshenko, the war with the "barbaric Russian aggression" has been going on for two years. As a result, about 10 thousand people were killed, 21 thousand Ukrainian citizens were injured and 1.7 million were internally displaced.
"This is the price Ukraine pays for the right to be a free, democratic and European country," - Poroshenko said.
According to the President of Ukraine, by far the Minsk agreements are the only way to return peace to Donbass.
"We will ensure peace in Donbass region even if some unpopular steps in the Ukrainian society are to be taken," - Poroshenko said.
