The Russian leadership expects written statements from NATO and the USA on the results of security talks in Geneva and Brussels. This statement was made by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Answering the question of journalists whether the Kremlin is ready to continue negotiations, two rounds of which he assessed as negative, the speaker of the President of the Russian Federation replied that Russia hopes to receive some written statements from the USA and NATO as parties to the negotiations in the near future.
"There has never been a shortage of political will to continue negotiations in Russia, but under one understanding, there can be no process for the sake of process on these fundamental issues. We can expect some written statements for the first and second rounds in the coming days", - he said.
In general, Peskov assessed the results of the negotiations as negative. "Of course, there were some positive nuances and elements that can be counted as a plus. But these elements and nuances were not the main goal of the consultations. These elements and nuances could not become a reason for urgently convening these consultations. The negotiations were initiated in order to get specific answers to specific fundamental issues. Disagreements have been recorded on these fundamental issues. This is bad, it can only be counted as a minus for the two rounds that took place", - he stated.
Russia put forward a tough ultimatum to the USA and NATO shortly before, demanding not to allow Ukraine and Georgia to join the Alliance, as well as to "roll back" in Eastern Europe to the 1997 positions. The leadership of America and NATO calls these demands unacceptable and raises the question of ending Russian aggression against Ukraine. The American side and representatives of the Alliance categorically confirmed their position at the talks with the Russian Federation in Geneva and Brussels.
