Soldier Petro Politsiak was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The corresponding Decree was posted on the website of the President of Ukraine.
"For personal courage and heroism, shown in protecting the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, I decree: to award the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Golden Star order to Petro Politsiak - soldier (posthumously)", - the Decree says.
Petro Politsiak was born in the village of Borbyn, Mlyniv district, Rivne oblast, on July 5, 1992. He was killed on January 20, 2015 during the defense of the Donetsk Airport.
Shooter, deputy commander of the platoon, nickname "Black", 80th separate air assault brigade. With his sworn brother Ivan, he carried out wounded Iрor Rymar for 1.5 km, being unarmed, at gunpoint of the terrorists.
He survived gas attack by the terrorists, last called his parents on January 20. He refused to sit in the last armored personnel carrier, being wounded in the arm, and forced sworn brother Oleksandr to leave – the father of two children, whose family was expecting the birth of their third child. He stayed because he had to look after his sworn brother, whom they could not evacuate – Volodymyr Buzenko with broken legs.
He died on January 20, 2015. The body was identified among the dead heroes, whom volunteers took from the airport to the Dnipropetrovsk morgue. Identified by his grandfather's clock, which he took during a special leave. He could not been recognized according to the birthmark on the left side of the face – the face was disfigured with brass knuckles.
Parents, four sisters and a bride were left without Petro. He was buried in the village of Borbyn on February 20, 2015.
