The Russian Federation spends about $ 5billion annually on the maintenance of occupied areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. This was said by Vice Prime Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Oleksii Reznikov in an interview with Liga.net.

"They spend up to $5 billion a year only on the Donetsk and Luhansk directions. This is $35 billion over a space of seven years. It seems to be insignificant money for a gas country, but still not small. The Russians are very pragmatic people, I have been negotiating with them for two years… If they understand that it is very expensive for them to hold these territories, but it has no sense, and there is the pressure of sanctions, they will look for options how to get out of this. With an attempt to save the face, of course. They will look for a suitable format", - Reznikov explained.

The Deputy Prime Minister also recalled that Ukraine should be ready for a peacekeeping mission introduction in the future.

"Therefore, we need to be ready for the introduction of some kind of international peacekeeping mission, which will ensure a transition period. Otherwise, the Russians will simply not agree to leave our territories", - Reznikov said.
