On the eve of the election to the State Duma of Russia, scheduled for September 17-19, a serious escalation of the situation in the Donbas is possible, as well as the "warming up" of this region, which has actually already begun. This was stated by ex-Deputy Minister for the temporarily occupied territories and internally displaced persons Heorhiy Tuka in a commentary to Obozrevatel.

"I think the events that recently took place in Avdiivka are far from the limit", - he noted, referring to the shelling of this settlement by Russian mercenaries on August 28.

"Everyone predicted and, unfortunately, most likely it will be so, that a certain period of escalation can be expected in the fall", - the politician said.

According to him, first of all, the upcoming election to the Russian parliament will be basis for such actions. "They have already begun and will continue - one hundred percent before the election, and possibly, after them", - Tuka predicted.

"This is also superimposed by the process of voting of residents of the occupied territories in the election. This will contribute to the warming up of the Donbas", - he added.

Let us recall that on Saturday, August 28, Russian mercenaries in the Donbas violated the ceasefire 18 times. As a result of shelling in the area of Avdiivka, ten Ukrainian servicemen were wounded and received combat injuries. The wounded are in medical institutions, their state of health is satisfactory.
