Ukraine should take into account that "Transnistrian option" led to nothing - elected President of Moldova 11/20/2020 17:09:01. Total views 790. Views today — 0.

Incoming President of Moldova Maia Sandu recommends that Ukraine, when resolving the Donbas issue, take into account that the low-key approach in the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement did not help resolve the conflict and return territorial integrity. This was stated by President-elect of Moldova Maia Sandu in an interview with European Pravda.

The new leader of Moldova, who will take office in early 2021, suggested Ukraine to take into account Moldova's unsuccessful experience in Transnistria.

"For example, the fact that Moldova chose a low-key approach. We recognized that Transnistria is part of the negotiation format, we gave the local business the same trade regime that our producers have - in particular, the right to free export to the EU under the Association Agreement. We signed more than 300 documents on the resolution of the conflict, etc.", - Maia Sandu noted.

"But despite all these steps, we have not come anywhere so far. This experience of ours may be useful for Ukraine to take into account in the actions on Donbas", - Sandu explained.

As known, Kishinev agreed to a "direct dialogue" with the unrecognized "government" in Tiraspol in the early 90s, after the end of hot phase of the Transnistrian conflict, and Russia agreed to consider Russia a "mediator" in the settlement of the conflict. Negotiations between Kishinev and Tiraspol continue.
